What do you desire? What makes you itch?
If you ever needed a reason, to stop what you’re doing and do something that you really love. Then this is it. This lecture from the late Alan Watts identifies the most simple of truths, that many of us never live out our dreams, for the simple fear of money. I know it’s something that has always been on the back of my mind, and money was a potentially huge barrier in doing this trip. However, when it came down to it, we both agreed that this trip would be more important to us than any other material objects our money could buy. When you’re able to re-prioritise what’s important to you in life, you need to put the other fears aside and go for it.
‘What do you desire? What makes you itch? What sort of a situation would you like?…..If you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend your life completely wasting your time. You’ll be doing things you don’t like doing in order to go on living, that is to go on doing things you don’t like doing, which is stupid. Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way.’ Alan Watts 1915-1973
